Meta finally gives its metaverse to people in the UK who own an Oculus Quest 2.
Horizon Worlds is now available in the UK, and update v41 is also available.
Owners of the Quest 2 VR headset in the UK will finally be able to use Horizon Worlds, this week's update v41 to the headset will make it easier for everyone to talk to each other in VR.
Horizon Worlds is Meta's growing platform for the metaverse, and Quest 2 users in the UK who are 18 or older can now download it for free and use it. They'll join the people in the US and Canada who already use the service. Horizon Worlds works like an audio-based chatroom and is similar to other virtual reality social spaces, like the popular VR Chat platform. Imagine if Reddit in VR.
But instead of talking at your desk, you and the people you are talking to will be taken to a faraway place, like a mountaintop, a sandy island, or a simple treehouse. If you can't find a good place to hang out, you can always make your own. You can even work with your friends and use assets and objects made by the community to spice up your VR space.
Horizon Worlds has grown a lot since it first came out, but this UK update is the first big one. Meta probably hopes that this influx of new players will help its metaverse platform continue to grow.
Multiplayer mode is added to The Quest 2
All Quest 2 users, whether they are in the UK or not, will get the v41 update. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, said on his Facebook page that the update is meant to make multiplayer on the Quest 2 better. Once it's set up, friends will be able to meet up in the same "virtual home," which is one of the first places you see when you put on a VR headset. Once you're all together, you'll be able to jump into different apps and videos so you can all enjoy them. The Quest 2's VR multiplayer is one of its best parts, so we hope that Meta will keep adding to it in future updates.
