Options For Birthday Parties

VR Parties & Birthday Parties

VR birthday party hire — frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to hire VR for a birthday party?

Our most popular birthday option is the 3-headset VR Party Pack, which starts at $239 for the minimum 3-day hire. A single headset like the Meta Quest 3s starts at $95 for 3 days. On top of the hire there is a fully refundable $185 bond, and courier delivery from $35.95 in the North Island — which includes the return freight. Current prices for every headset are on the VR hire gear page.

How many headsets do we need for the party?

As a rough guide, one headset suits 2 to 4 kids, two headsets suit 4 to 6, and three headsets suit 6 to 10. Most birthday parties land in that last group, which is why three is our most common booking 🎉 With one headset each child plays for around 10 minutes and then waits 30 to 60 minutes, which is where parties tend to lose momentum.

What's included in the VR Party Pack?

Three Meta Quest 3s headsets with controllers and spare batteries, over 60 games and experiences already installed, charging cables, protective covers, setup instructions, a free Chromecast so gameplay can be shown on your TV, and the return courier ticket. The third headset is half price, and the freight is the same as hiring just one.

What age is a VR party suitable for?

Generally ages 8 to 12 and older, including adults. Younger children can enjoy the simpler experiences, but we recommend adult supervision and shorter turns. We have different headsets, some more suitable for younger kids, and most games are non-violent.

How much space do we need?

About 2m x 2m per player. You don't need a big room, you need a clear one — move coffee tables, chairs, pets, glassware and anything breakable out of the play area first. A lounge, garage, rumpus room or spare room all work well.

Can the other kids watch while someone is playing?

Yes, and it makes a big difference to the party. With the free Chromecast you can mirror the VR view onto a TV, so the kids waiting can watch, laugh and cheer instead of standing around. Half the fun of a VR party is watching someone duck, dodge and shriek at something you can't see.

Do we need WiFi?

WiFi is recommended. Many games are already installed and playable, but you'll want a connection for online features, multiplayer, updates and casting to a TV.

When should I book, and when will it arrive?

Book early for weekend birthdays and school holidays — those fill fast. Delivery is generally 1 to 2 working days to Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga and Wellington, often next working day in Waikato, and an extra day for rural addresses. We send early so the gear usually arrives before your hire period starts, and you are only charged for the days you booked.

Couriers do not deliver on weekends, so if the party is on a Saturday or Sunday, choose Friday as your start date.

What happens if something gets damaged during the party?

Normal use is absolutely fine — kids play enthusiastically and we expect that. If something is damaged accidentally, just contact us; we're fair and easy to deal with. Courier damage is not your responsibility. Your bond is refunded once everything comes back and checks out, which usually takes a few days depending on your bank.

Is the equipment cleaned between hires?

Yes. Every headset is cleaned, sanitised, tested and checked before it goes out ✨ Gear arrives charged, updated and protected in hard cases.

Can I hire the Party Pack for a work function or commercial event?

The Party Pack pricing is for residential customers. For work functions, corporate events, expos or school bookings, please contact us or email info@virtualrealityhire.co.nz first — there's more on our expos and events page.
